Cape Coral’s Rotary Park is found just off Rose Garden Road in Tarpon Point.

With amenities like an environmental center used for gardening, nature-related classes, a butterfly display, and a 9-acre dog park, you’re sure to find many locals and tourists alike enjoying the park daily.

The grounds also offer a variety of exercise classes, an observation tower, new playground area, a fitness trail, boardwalk nature trail, and a summer camp for children.

1. The Joint Restaurant in Cape Harbour. Bring your dog to the outside bar, enjoy the best pizza in town, and live music all week. This is one of the best places in the Cape for music, fun and food.
2. Bubbas RoadHouse You and your dog can enjoy drinks on the patio of Bubba’s RoadHouse and Saloon.  Located in Cape Coral at Pine Island Road and Chiquita, in Cape Coral.
3. The Monkey Bar in Cape Coral. Bring your dog to the outside bar where you can enjoy live music, and a great steak dinner!   This bar is a great hidden secret with its fabulous dinners from pasta, to seafood and steak. The music, atmosphere and staff are TOP NOTCH.  They will even bring your doggie a bowl of water.
4. The Working Cow Ice Cream Parlor, Cape Coral. Visit this Cape Coral restaurant/ice cream parlor by car or boat and enjoy the fenced in playground at Four Freedoms Park right across the street.  Bring your doggie for a complimentary cup of vanilla ice cream, while you enjoy banana splits, sundaes, hand packed fabulous ice cream in all sorts of flavors, shakes, smoothies, coffee, and more.
5. RC Otters, Captiva Island in SW Florida.  RC Otter’’s Island Eats is a place for the whole family! Located in the Heart of Old Captiva Village with lovely shopping and dining, you can enjoy live music daily with dining inside and outside.
6. Parrot Key, Fort Myers Beach. Looking for a new place to go by water, get a great Caribbean meal and sip an ice cold cocktail?  Head to the Parrot Key Caribbean Grill. Parrot Key has answered the call of local boaters by opening its doors at Salty Sam’s Marina.  The casual open-air restaurant features a spectacular view of Matanzas Harbor, and offers the best in tropical drinks, tempting appetizers and delicious entrées.
7. Pinchers in Fort Myers. Bring your dog to the South Fort Myers location, and enjoy a nice dinner on the outside patio. From blues to kings to snows to stoneys, they are all about crabs. They also fry an awesome grouper, toss a mean Caesar, and barbeque simply the best ribs from a seafood joint.  Family friendly and as casual as you can get.

3. Eagle Skate Park: This is Southwest Florida’s largest skate park, featuring 27,000 square feet of ramps, rails and pipes. Located in Central Cape Coral the park is open seven days a week to all bicyclists and skateboarders.

4. Yacht Club: Features a sandy beach, grand ballroom, fishing pier, community pool and several beach pavilions. Head out on a Wednesday night and take part in a sunset festival, complete with music, drinks, food, dancing and tons of fun.

Cape Coral’s Very First Dairy Queen on 47th Avenue – September 1962

…major promoting through mail order programs and ads on radio, television and print media, northerners slowly made their way down south to the blossoming city.

The Rosen brothers sold nearly all of the 350,000 residential building sites to people who lived in other states.

Cape Coral continued to grow extremely quickly, recording 10,000 residents within the first ten years of its existence.

…first residents started moving in.

On June 14, 1958, the first family moved into Cape Coral.

These pioneers had to drive a long distance to get anywhere – almost 20 miles for a loaf of bread!

So the Rosens took action, and carefully plotted the community. (Learn more about the Rosen’s in our previous blog post).

They brought in the largest single shipment of earth-moving equipment in Florida development history to begin digging more than 400 miles of canals.

The soil dredged up from the canals was then used as fill dirt for home sites to bring the level of the ground up to the required 5 feet 6 inches.

Cape Coral’s first Mayor was Paul Fickinger, was incorporated on August 18, 1970, and held it’s first council meeting on December 3, 1970?

…founded in 1957, when brothers Jack and Leonard Rosen purchased a 103-sq mile tract of land, formerly known as Redfish Point.

Filled with barren wetlands and wild palmetto thickets, the brothers formed The Gulf American Corporation to develop the “Waterfront Wonderland”, and on November 4th of that year, ground was officially broken as Cape Coral!
